Polaris or the North Star is special. It’s so close to the celestial pole that it traces out a very small circle over 24 hours. For this reason, the North Star is always roughly in the same place in the sky. It is a reliable way to find North. It has been a symbol of guidance and direction for centuries. In ancient times, navigators used the North Star to determine their location and navigate land and seas. Escaping slaves used Polaris to find freedom. Metaphorically the North Star inspires and influences. It symbolises direction, guidance, stability and purpose. It is a guiding light.
NorthStar Academy was born from recognition that many provisional psychologists have not received the level of guidance, direction, training and supervising they and their clients deserve. Without this they don’t feel as confident and competent. Instead, they feel like imposters. Lost, vulnerable, worried, stuck and unsure of how to really help their clients.
Our vision is to tackle this head on. To guide clinicians so they can succeed in their purpose work. Via hands on supportive, practical training and feedback, we teach clinicians how to better connect with, engage, work skilfully and collaboratively with their clients to hone their clinical skills and get the best outcomes.
